Getting to know Coach Buhlman
With a deep passion for sports and coaching, Coach Buhlman is a dedicated professional with over twenty-five years in the coaching industry. His commitment to sport education shines through personalized consultation services and workshops, creating an inspiring environment for coaches and athletes of all levels.
James has built a deep and extensive career in the sporting industry, where he has coached both Athletics and Basketball at the College level, become a World Athletics Certified coach, a Chartered Professional Coach (ChPC), coached at numerous Canadian Championships while still finding the time to complete his Masters in Coaching from the prestigious Johan Cruyff Institute in the Netherlands.
Outside of the coaching realm, James has been an active speaker at sport conferences around the world, including the 2023 International Sport for Life Conference in New York City the 2023 International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE)
Global Coaching Conference in Singapore, the 2025 Sport for Life Conference in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, and the 2025 International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE) Global Coaching Conference in Athens, Greece.
In 2016-17, James worked as a sports consultant for a private Beijing sports company designing basketball curriculum, leading elite coaching clinics, teacher training, and conference speaking engagements.
He has organized sporting tournaments and championships at the local, provincial and national level, been a high school basketball convenor, a Physical Education Instructor, Athletic Director, and Technical Manager at the National Sport Organization (NSO) and Provincial / Territorial Sport Organization (PTSO) levels. His extensive professional experience in many varied areas of sport have helped inform him as a coach, coach mentor, learning facilitator, coach evaluator, conference speaker, and sport management consultant.
